Neuropsychological Assessment

A neuropsychological evaluation identifies a student’s functioning in areas of intelligence, memory, language, visual perception, sensorimotor skills, executive functions, attention, academics, mood states, and motivation. Through the coordinated efforts of teachers, parents, therapists, and other professionals, the results of an assessment will provide a detailed picture of a student’s neurocognitive profile and determine how to optimize learning. An assessment can identify where the process breaks down for students and offers a game plan to help them meet academic and personal goals.

Cognitive Training and Executive Function Skills

Executive Function (EF) skills are the mental processes that allow students to focus attention, plan, organize, problem solve, and achieve goals. They are crucial to development, enhance learning, and provide lifelong benefits by helping individuals regulate their emotions/behaviors in the face of challenges or think flexibly when demands change.

Many students, however, struggle to keep up academically or socially due to underdeveloped executive skills. Working memory and processing speed are two important foundational skills for learning; weaknesses in these functions can impede learning despite intervention.

With structured and consistent Cognitive Training, new neuroconnections can be formed which support the development of these essential EF systems. Learn about the evidence-based programs that actively engage students by fostering a growth mindset and teaching skills for emotional regulation.

Adoptee Consultation

Adoption is a deeply personal journey that can shape one’s sense of self and belonging in profound ways. While every adoption story is different, there are common themes and threads that tie the experience together. Connecting with others who have a shared experience can be both validating and empowering. Supportive mirroring can help calm the nervous system and build connections to self and others, which is essential for growth and healing.
